Naturopathic Medicine
Dr. Blackham practices primary care and has a special interest in digestive and pelvic health; these systems often overlap and treating one affects the other. She also provides treatments for very common issues that affect everyone including stress, insomnia, depression and anxiety, mood disorders, and skin conditions, among other health concerns. She performs annual gynecologic exams/pap smears and IUD insertions, addresses acute concerns such as UTIs and vaginitis, and treats chronic conditions such as menstrual disorders, autoimmune conditions, and hypothyroidism. She refers to specialists when needed, orders lab testing and imaging, and also uses specialty lab testing for functional evaluation. She has helped many patients improve their health by restoring gut function, particularly those with GERD (acid reflux), IBS/SIBO, and histamine intolerance. She has also successfully treated urinary incontinence and painful sex (dyspareunia) with pelvic floor therapy. Here you will find a list of health conditions that Dr. Blackham treats, followed by examples of Dr. Blackham’s treatment approach for some common health issues.
The coursework in naturopathic medical school covers the same basic sciences as conventional medical schools. Naturopathic physicians are trained to diagnose, prescribe medications, and recommend surgery when necessary, but are also trained to use holistic tools such as nutrition, botanical medicine, homeopathy, and physical medicine. It is Dr. Blackham’s aim to find and address the root cause of disease, treat the whole person as an individual, and educate and empower you.
